Geneva (Antara) – The high diplomats of Iran on Friday stated that Israel launched a “random and criminal war” and asked the international community to condemn the actions he called “cruel aggression.”
Foreign Minister Sayed Abbas Araghchi, spoke for the UN human rights council in Geneva, said that Iran, a country with a population of nearly 100 million people, is currently confronted with aggression by Regimes who have led genocide in Palestine over the past two years.
He called the Israeli attack, which started last week, focused on settlements, public infrastructure, hospitals, health centers and of course the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
“Hundreds of my colleagues were killed and injured,” Araghchi told the representatives, adding that “peaceful nuclear facilities are also directed, even though they are under the full supervision of IAEA,” or the international atomic energy agency.
He described the attack as a “serious war crime” that runs the risk of causing environmental and health disasters.
Araghchi emphasized that Israeli attacks Article 2 (4) of the UN Charter, which prohibited the use of power, and confirmed Iran’s right to defend itself in accordance with Article 51.
“Iran defends himself against a wild attack … with all its strength. This is our right,” he said.
While he called for an urgent international action, he warned: “If there is a use of the expensive systems and mechanisms that we have created over the past eight decades to maintain human rights and dignity, this is the time to do it.”
Just before his speech, the Israeli ambassador in the United Nations in Geneva transferred “loud objections” to Iran who spoke before the council before negotiations with their partners from Europe.
Daniel Meron said that because Israel would not be part of the negotiations of Geneva, Tel Aviv hoped that European officials would undertake ‘fixed attitude’, including demanding the cancellation of the total nuclear program, ballistic demolition and ending the Iranian regional activities.
