Jakarta (Antara) – Meteorology, climatology and geophysics (BMKG) reminded that a high rainfall during the 2025 drought period had a double impact on the agricultural sector, both and opportunities and challenges.
The head of BMKG, Dwikorita Karnawati in Jakarta, explained on Saturday that although climatic Indonesia should have entered the dry season, most areas still experienced rainfall above normal due to climate anomalies.

“This is both a blessing and a challenge. This can help for rice farmers, because the supply of irrigation water remains available. But high humidity can be a serious problem for horticulture,” said Dwikorita.
Horticulture plants, such as chili, onions and tomatoes, are vulnerable to vermin and diseases during high humidity. That is why BMKG encourages farmers to adjust the planting pattern and to strengthen the plan protection system.
“We encourage horticultural farmers to prepare a good drainage system and strengthen the protection of plants. Let a high rainfall not even reduce production,” he said.
Dwikorita also recalled that this year’s dry season is expected to take place shorter than normal, but still accompanied by fluctuating rainfall until October 2025, especially in the southern region of Indonesia.
According to BMKG analysis, the irregularity of precipitation patterns can cause malfunctions in the food production system, the water supply and other economic activities if it is not expected.

“Predictive information and BMKG analysis must be a reference. The willingness of climate adjustment is not only at national level, but also has to reach farmers in the field,” said Dwikorita.
BMKG emphasized the dedication to continue to help stakeholders in different sectors in understanding the dynamics of the weather and the climate, so that field policy and strategies are more responsive and on goal.
