Jakarta (Antara) – The coordinating Ministry for Infrastructure and Regional Development of the Coordinating Ministry or Kemenko IPK stated that the development of water infrastructure is a top priority in the development of the National Strategic Project (PSN).

Secretary of the Ministry of IPK Ayodhia GL Kalake in the World Air Day -Webinar that was held online in Jakarta on Monday, stated that the government has currently placed the focus on PSN to build dams and irrigation channels. This was done to support other government priority programs, such as food self -supply.

“More than 70 percent of the water used by people worldwide is used for agricultural purposes. That is why the Indonesian government places the development of water infrastructure including dams and irrigation networks as a top priority in national strategic projects,” he said.

He explained that the government continued to strengthen the development of water infrastructure, such as performing the development and rehabilitation of dozens of national dams.

He said that between 2015 and 2023 the government built 61 dams that include an area of ​​1.18 million hectares, with an average construction of 131 thousand hectares per year.

During this period, Indonesia built the largest dam in Pamukkulu, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, with a water capacity of up to 82 million cubic meters.

Moreover, the modernization of irrigation networks also remains intensified as an attempt to strengthen the water infrastructure. The coordinating ministry for IPK noted that Indonesia currently has an irrigation area (Tue) with an area of ​​9.13 million hectares. This is done through improvement and innovation activities, improving the management system and empowering human resources.

Moreover, he said, the president had also issued presidential instruction no. 2 of 2025 with regard to accelerating development, improvement, rehabilitation and operations and maintenance of irrigation networks in support of self -absent.

This instruction is a coordinative umbrella for all institutions and local governments to speed up the improvement of irrigation infrastructure, rehabilitation of damaged networks and to strengthen the institutions of farmers and other residents.
