Jakarta (Antara)-Kappertain Paris Saint-Germain (PSG) Marquinhos asked his team to stay humble after beating Atletico Madrid with a score of 4-0 in the first game of Group B of the World Cup 2025 on Monday.
Marquinhos, who lifted the UEFA 2024-2025 Champions League trophy two weeks earlier, did not assess the end result of a match, especially with heavy opponents in the Club World Cup.
“We never know how a match will end, especially when they are confronted with opponents such as she (Atletico Madrid-ED). Our team shows his strength,” said Marquinhos, quoted on the official FIFA website on Monday.
“Yes, we won the Champions League, but today we have shown our intensity again. We have to stay humble, continue to survive, attack and step in the same direction,” he continued.
In the meantime, PSG midfielder, Vitinha, became a deep-driven figure to have Lee Kang-in a penalty taken in the 90th minute+7 that was the last goal against Atletico in the game.
“We have indeed talked about the fine given to Lee Kang-in. I usually took it. Today it should be my turn, but we already have an agreement. I am not an attacker, so I don’t need any goal. And if we are so superior, I give the penalty to the attacker,” Vitinha said.
Victory on Atletico Madrid brought PSG with three points with three points. In the second game in group C, Friday (6/20), PSG is confronted with a Brazilian club, Botafogo.
