Ambon (Antara) – Commission VII of the House of Republic of the Republic of Indonesia (DPR RI) has initiated strategic steps in the development of the fishing sector in the province of Maluku to improve the economy in the area.
“We will later propose the DPR RI meeting how we develop the fishermen sector by increasing the processing of seafood in Maluku,” said DPR RI Commission VII Lamhot Sinaga, in Ambon, Sunday.
This was transferred to the meeting of the House of Representatives Commission VII with Maluku deputy Governor Abdulah Vanath, secretary of Sadali Ie, and Voropimda Maluku, leaders of TVRI and RRI and Perum LKBN Antara in the context of Recess on 11-15 June 2025.
The Indonesian House of Representatives Committee VII Group charged with industry, MSMEs, creative economy, tourism and publications led by deputy chairman Rahayu Saraswati Djojohadikusumo, Lamhot Sinaga, Samuel Wattimena and Siti Mukaromah, together with the Ministry of Commission.

He claimed that the importance of optimizing the potential of Maluku Marine, so far the great potential of fishing in East Indonesia, has not been used to the maximum due to a lack of supporting infrastructure and attention from the central government.
The concrete steps that are powered by Commission VII include strengthening the facilities and infrastructure of the fishing port, the development of the Marine Product Processing industry, as well as increasing access to energy and technology for fishermen and fishing companies.
Commission VII also expressed the importance of environmentalism in every development process.
“This is certainly also the work of the Ministry of Industry and Trade in Maluku to carry out a number of programs on which the target is, namely the processing of fishing. So downstream does not only exist in the field of mining or agriculture, but also in the field of fishing,” he explained.

He added that this could be achieved through the opening of fishing investment options in Maluku, so that all partners in Commission VII can be optimized to help Maluku’s provincial government.
He also considered the synergy of centers the key to the success of the development of the marine and fishing sector.
Currently based on data, the province of Maluku has registered a brilliant result in the fishing sector in 2024 with a total production of 764,776 tons. This performance confirmed the position of Maluku as one of the largest fish -producing regions in Indonesia.
The most important raw materials that dominate production are sea fishing such as tuna, skipjack, cob, bloated feeling and kite. Moreover, VanNauti shrimps is also a mainstay of export, as an increased demand from the international market.
