Cairo (Antara) – Egypt postponed the official opening (Senior) The large museum of Egypt (Grand Egyptian Museum/Gem) who has long been expected because of the escalation of military confrontation between Israel and Iran, as announced by Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Saturday (6/14).
During a press conference during a visit to the Province of Beheira in Noord -Egypt, Madboulny said that the current regional situation was not conducive to organizing a large international event. The opening of the museum, originally planned for 3 July, is now being postponed to the fourth quarter of this year.
“Regional tensions can continue for a few weeks. We realize that the right step is to postpone this big event to have the right worldwide momentum and to take place in a favorable atmosphere,” said Madboulny.
He said that the new opening date would be announced on the basis of regional developments in the future.
Madboulny also transferred a solid warning about the broader implications of the Israeli-Iran conflict, while mentioning an increasing risk of broader confrontation in the Middle East.
GEM is close to the iconic Giza pyramid and covers an area of nearly 500,000 square meters, Gem is devoted the largest archaeological museum in the world to one civilization. According to the Ministry of Tourism and the Archeology of Egypt, the museum will be home to around 57,000 artifacts.
