Jakarta (Antara) -Merorge Russell Racer led the Formula 1 (F1) Grand Prix Canada race in the Gilles Villeneuve circuit, Montreal, from the leading position after he beat Max Verstappen (Red Bull) in the qualifying round, early Sunday morning.
Russell defeated Verstappen, who would start from the second position, after he had included the fastest time in the qualifying phase 3 (Q3) with a time of 1 minute 10,899 seconds or 0.16 seconds for the Dutch racer.
“Today is extraordinary for this extraordinary audience,” said Russell, quoted from the official F1 page on Sunday.
This pole position is a golden opportunity for the British racer to win the first F1 race this season.

“I entered the last corner and was six tenths and I had something like this, this round was great and crossed the finish while seeing in P1 was a real surprise, but it was very happy,” said Russell.
In the meantime, the winner of five races and the top of the Oscar Piastri (McLaren) starts from third place. In the qualifying round he registered a time of 1 minute 11,120 seconds.
Kimi Antonelli from Mercedes will start the race from fourth position, while the fifth position is inhabited by Racer Ferrari Lewis Hamilton.

The Canadian F1 GP race is played on Monday (6/16) with 70 laps. In the last three races in Canada since 2022, nobody won the race except Verstappen.
