The government is preparing 100 Mbps internet in the field "empty spot"



Jakarta (Antara) – The government has drawn up a permanent internet access to 100 Mbps that is prioritized for penetration in regions without optical fiber networks or emptyIncluding schools, puskesma and village office.

Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid explained that the move was part of the acceleration of National Digital Equity as required by President Prabowo Subianto. Meutya emphasized that digital connectivity is an important basis for realizing the economic growth of people.

“As we all know, in his inauguration of speech, the president repeatedly delivered the importance of digitization to improve the economic life of the community,” said Meutya on Saturday in Jakarta.

In the 100 Mbps Internet Supply Program, the government has drawn up a new spectrum that will be assigned transparently to the regular network organizers. The network model to be applied is open accessWhich means that the permit holder must open the infrastructure to be used together by other telecommunications organizers.

The effort is intended to open the way for providing internet services at high speed in areas that have not been reached by optical fiber networks, in particular for public facilities such as schools, health care centers, village offices and households.

According to data from the Directorate General of Digital Infrastructure of the Ministry of Communication and Digital, no fewer than 86 percent of the schools (190,000 units) still have no permanent internet access.

Moreover, 75 percent of Puskesma’s (7,800 units) are not well connected, 32,000 village offices are still in the zone emptyand penetration Fixed broadband Reach just 21.31 percent of households in Indonesia.

“This is our step to ensure that every spectrum policy not only gives priority to the regulatory aspects, but also opens the widest possible space for industrial involvement and readiness,” said Meutya.

The willingness of the ministerial regulation as a legal basis for the cheap internet program has also experienced industrial consultations for more than a month.

The operator’s selection process starts this year with a transparent and responsible scheme, which prioritizes the preparative and dedication of technology to offer affordable services.
