WASHINGTON (Antara) – The American President Donald Trump stated that Iran “may have another chance” to reach a nuclear agreement with the United States.
His statement appeared on Friday after Israel had launched a massive attack on Iran’s ballistic and nuclear rocket programs that killed at least 86 people and were injured 341.
“They (Iran) have missed the opportunity to make an agreement. Now there can still be a chance. We will see,” Trump said in a telephone interview with NBC News.
When asked why he was sure that Iran was willing to negotiate again after he had been attacked by Israel, Trump replied that some Iranian officials had contacted him to convey this desire.
“They called me to talk about (that),” said Trump.
When asked who contacted him, he replied: “The people we have worked before … Many of them are now dead now.”
The sixth round of indirect negotiations between the US and Iran will be held in Oman on Sunday. However, it is unclear whether the meeting will continue after Israel Iran and Iran had attacked to attack Israel.
Trump seemed to praise the Israeli attack by saying: “They have the best equipment in the world, namely American equipment.”
On Friday morning, Israel launched a huge attack with around 200 fighter jets that are aimed at Iran’s nuclear and rocket programs. Various high military officials and nuclear scientists were killed in the attack.
Israeli leader Benjamin Netanyahu said that military operations would “focus” if necessary.
Iran has vowed to give and ask a “serious punishment” for an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council.
Trump’s government emphasized that Israeli attacks were ‘unilaterally’ and Iran warned not to attack the American goals in exchange.
