Menomigi invites the Philippines to strengthen the collaboration that develops ethical AI



Jakarta (Antara) – Minister of Communication and Digital (Menkigi) Meutya Hafid emphasizes the importance of strengthening cooperation between Indonesia and the Philippines in the light of the era of digital transformation, especially related to digital administration and the development of ethical artificial intelligence (AI).

According to him, as two dynamic and economic democracy that continue to grow in Southeast -Asia, Indonesia and the Philippines have a shared vision of a safe, ethical and centered digital future.

“We must welcome the progress of artificial intelligence (AI) with a cooperation spirit, to ensure that the development of AI is carried out in a responsible manner by inclusive policy, ethical innovations, as well as in -Talent Research and Exchange,” Meutiya said in his statement in Jakarta on Saturday.

Meutya said that Indonesia welcomed the involvement more closely with the Philippines in shaping the development of ethical AI.

“Together we can ensure that digital transformation really improves the quality of life of people, strengthening democracy and retaining human values ​​that we keep together,” he said.

In his comments while attending the commemoration of the 147th Independence Day of the Filipino Republic in Jakarta, Meutya emphasized that the relations of Indonesia and the Philippines were not only based on geographical proximity, but also in the long history and idealism, comparable in the line.

“As a colleague founders of ASEAN, the two countries stand side by side in fighting for peace, stability and prosperity of the Southeast Asian region,” he said.

He also referred to the concrete contribution of Indonesia supporting peace in the Philippines through the facilitation of Jakarta Accord in 1996, as clear evidence of bilateral solidarity that continues to grow.

He claimed that Indonesia expressed full support for the Philippines in performing Asean leadership in 2026, especially when navigating through increasingly complex global challenges.

Meutya also shared a personal story that showed the proximity of the Philippines. For him, the Philippines are not only a close neighbor, but a very meaningful part of life.

“My mother underwent a pregnancy of full months in the Philippines, and that’s why I was called Bing at home – a very famous nickname in the Philippines. My father won his doctorate in the city of Los Baños,” he said.
