Indonesia strives for sea protection and sustainable blue economic development

Jakarta (Antara) – The Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries confirms the use of Indonesia in Sustainable Marien Beheer on the Third of Marine Conference (Unoc -3) that took place in Port Lympia, Nice, France.

“Indonesia is dedicated to sea protection and sustainable blue economic development,” said Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Sakti Wahyu Trenggono while attending the third maritime conference (UNOC-3) in Port Lympia, Nice, France as a statement in Jakarta on Friday.

In the activity that took place from 9-13 June, Minister Trenggono emphasized, Indonesia emphasized the urgency of global cooperation in entering into challenges such as global warming, increased sea acid, reduced fishing stocks and marine pollution.

“Indonesia continues to show leadership through concrete action in the blue economic policy that is in accordance with the goals of sustainable development (SDGS),” said Trenggono.

Real action is carried out by a blue economic policy, namely by expanding Zeebereik areas up to 30 percent in 2045, responsible quota -based fishing, sustainable aquaculture, supervision of the coastal ecosystem and the involvement of the community in reducing plastic waste from sea level.

At present, Indonesia has protected more than 29 million hectares of sea area and is one of the countries with the largest blue carbon reserves in the world, with around 17 percent of the global blue carbon from Mangroven and Zeegras.

Moreover, he said, Indonesia encouraged stronger global cooperation in reinforcement capacity, open science, sea research and technology transfer.

Indonesia also led for financing innovations such as Indonesia Coral Reef Bond and Global Blended Finance Alliance and Ocean 20 Initiatives launched in the G20 president.

Trenggono announced that Indonesia had ratified biodiversity beyond the international agreement of the National Jurisdiction Agreement (BBNJ) and was part of the Aquatic Blue Food Coalition together with 40 other countries.

As a form of the leadership of Indonesia in sustainable seam management, Minister Trenggono said that Indonesia would organize the Ocean Impact Summit on the commemoration of the World Sea Day 2026.

The forum will collect experts, policy makers, business actors and philanthropic substances to encourage real consequences in the field of blue food, blue diplomacy, blue economy and blue energy.

“I thank France and Costa Rika as organizer of the Unoc-3, this forum must be a catalyst for real, scientific and inclusive action catalysts for our shared sea,” he added.

During the meeting, Indonesia also presented the international international international international instrument for biodiversity than the National Jurisdiction Agreement (BBNJ) that regulates the preservation and sustainable use of marine biodiversity in regions outside the National Jurisdiction (ABNJ) to the UN representative.

Minister Trenggono also emphasized the strengthening of the cooperation between Mariene and Fisheries by the Blue Economic Program when he was an important speaker at the side event organized by the State and Strategic Partner Organization of Indonesia.

A number of bilateral meetings were also held, including bilateral meetings with Iceland, Norway, Sweden, England, Germany, Maldives, South Korea, Palau, Chile, World Bank and Pegasus Capital and met Peter Thomson.

The UNOC-3 was held together by the French and Costa Rika governments on 9-13 June 2025 aimed at accelerating worldwide actions in the preservation and use of the sea in a sustainable way.
