Kemenbud from the translation of classical literature that supports local works worldwide



Jakarta (Antara)-Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon said that from 2025 his ministry actively translates literary works, in particular Indonesian classical literary works in other languages ​​to support local works can be worldwide.

“We started this year. In addition to new works, his classic works that have never been translated have been the works of the Balai Pustaka Force, in my opinion, much interesting there and we can start translating,” said Fadli Zon at the Ministry of Culture Office, Jakarta, Wednesday.

The translation of literary works was one of the programs drawn up by the Ministry of Culture to strengthen the literary ecosystem in Indonesia as an important ecosystem in care for Indonesian culture.

According to Fadli Zon, the translation of literary works was carried out by the government in previous periods to support writers, but it cannot be denied that the program did not systematically implement.

During his leadership, he was committed to making the translation program of literary works to be kept more routine and more systematically, so that in the future Indonesian literary works could have more fans with the reach of the world market.

With the initiative of the translation of literary works driven by the government, Fadli Zon hopes that similar movements will grow in the future by other parties such as the private sector and companies to grow and show the Indonesian literary force.

“This a bit too lateBut it’s better to be too late than nothing at all. The translation project must not only be carried out by the government, but can also be done by the private sector, companies or by private individuals. This is an attempt to encourage literary ecosystems to grow, “he said.

In addition to the literary work transparent program, the Ministry of Culture has attempted to grow and strengthen the literary ecosystem in Indonesia, also released a program, the Indonesian literature laboratory consisting of a Laboratory and Literary Promotion Laboratory.

The two lab programs are currently holding literary talents, especially the younger generation to explore the profession of literary translators and to become a literary agent as a contact person between local literary writers and global publishers.

Not only the literary laboratory program, the Ministry of Education and Culture also prepares various other programs to promote Indonesian literary ecosystems that will be performed in the coming years, including strengthening literary festivals, strengthening literary communities, literary talent management, strengthening IP-based literary work and also literary promotion.
