IPR: Steps needed to strengthen the investment ecosystem of the industrial area

Jakarta (Antara) – Chairman of the Indonesian Industrial Estate Association (IPR) Akhmad Mau’ruf Maulana assesses the need for concrete steps to strengthen the investment ecosystem of the industrial estate.

This is considered important because the government also has ambitious goals in encouraging national economic growth.

“The government has an objective of 8 percent economic growth over the next five years. So we invite related ministries, because this relates to the problems that industrial estates are confronted,” Ma’ruuf said in his statement in Jakarta on Friday.

Ma’ruf emphasized that industrial estates in Indonesia should be protected by strong and specific regulations.

He was of the opinion that at the moment the industrial estate did not have sufficient rules to maintain its strategic role in attracting investments and creating employment.

“We ask for a stronger legal umbrella, so that there is a special article in the industrial law in the future, so that the rules of the game are clear,” says Ma’ruf.

According to him, as 120 industrial areas are combined across Indonesia, an important economic force that must be supported by legal certainty are combined.

Moreover, Ma’ruf said that the current industrial estate is still confronted with a number of obstacles in the investment process, ranging from high energy costs such as GAS, the slow license process, to bureaucracy in various ministries and institutions.

IPR, continued Ma’ruf, has a dialogue with a number of ministries such as the Ministry of Investment, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Ministry of ATR/BPN, and will involve the Ministry of the Environment in the following discussion.

The results of this discussion, he said, will be summarized and submitted to the central government as a form of policy input.

Moreover, one of the priorities of Ma’ruf is as general chairman of IPR to encourage the acceleration of investment licenses.

He hopes that the investment gearbox taskforce with related ministries and institutions (K/L) can be immediately inaugurated via the official decree (SK) so that the gear process can be effectively implemented.

“We encourage the acceleration of licenses to be performed quickly,” he said.

Moreover, Ma’ruf also stated that his party would form a team with the Ministry of Industry and the Ministry of Investment and Downstream/BKPM to supervise the investment acceleration process.

He emphasized that IPR would become a strategic bridge between industrial, community and government players.

“We will make the team together with the Ministry of Industry and (ministry) investments (and downstream/BKPM) to oversee this. And of course we will involve ourselves or be involved in the acceleration of the investment,” said Ma’ruf.
