Bukittinggi (Antara) – Mount Marapi in West Sumatra again experienced an eruption with volcanic axis that reached 700 meters around 20.09 WIB on Wednesday (6/18).

“The height of the ash column was observed 700 meters above peak or 3,591 meters above sea level,” volcano observer Ahmad Rifandi in Bukittinggi on Wednesday.

According to him, the Ash Column turned out to be gray with the intensity to lean to the east.

This eruption, he said, was included in a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 30 millimeters and a duration of 1 minute 52 seconds.

“Currently, Marapi is at the level II status (Waspada) with community recommendations not to enter and not to carry out activities in the jet of three kilometers from the center of the activity (Verbeek Crater),” said Rifandi.

Extermination at night made residents around the slopes of Mount Marapi surprised because the sound of flowering and vibrations was pronounced quite pronounced.

Wali Nagari (village head) Bukik Batabuah Firdaus said that residents were shocked by the sound of a very loud tree, accompanied by a roar and vibrations that felt at the houses of residents.

He revealed, from a clearly visible light bulb that came from the top of Mount Marapi, which indicates the occurrence of an eruption and a significant increase in volcanic activity.

“On behalf of the government of Nagari Bukik Batabuah we appealed to the entire community to stay calm but alert, and always follow official information from the authorities,” he said.
