Istanbul (Antara) – The European Commission extended the sanctions to Russia on Monday (6/16) in response to the illegal anexation of Crimea and Sevastopol City Area until June 23, 2026.
In its official statement, the European Commission emphasized that the Member States of the European Union were forbidden to import products from Crimea and Sevastopol during the adoption of sanctions.
The sanctions also limit the activities of citizens and EU companies on Crimea and Sevastopol.
European companies cannot provide investment services and financial services to Crimea and Sevastopol.
In addition, various products and technologies used in the transport, telecommunications and energy sectors are also prohibited to be exported.
In particular, the provision of technology and technical assistance for exploration, extraction and production of oil, natural gas and minerals is also prohibited.
“EU recognizes and remains the illegal anexation of Crimea and Sevastopol by the Russian Federation not to be a violation of international law,” said the statement.
In March 2014, Russia illegally annexed the Autonomous Republic of Krim and Sevastopol City.
Following these actions and tensions in Eastern Ukraine at the time, the European Union, the United States and a number of other countries dropped a series of sanctions against Russia.
