Komnas Wanita critical critical statement from Menbud about sexual violence 98

Jakarta (Antara) – The National Commission for Anti -Verseld against Women (Komnas Wanita) expressed concern and criticized the declaration of the Minister of Culture (Menbud) Fadli Zon who denied sexual violence in the tragedy of May 1998.

“The survivor has supported a burden in silence for too long. This denial is not only painful, but also impunity,” said Komnas Wanita Dahlia Madanih member in Jakarta on Sunday.

Komnas Perempuan reminded the results of the official report on the Joint Fact Finding Team (TGPF) with regard to the riots of May 1998, revealed the findings of human rights violations, namely 85 cases of sexual violence, including 52 rape cases.

Dahlia Madanih added that the findings were delivered directly to BJ Habibie as president of the Republic of Indonesia at the time and the basis of the official recognition of the State in connection with the facts of sexual violence against women in the tragedy of May 1998, followed by the Presidential decision of Kombenita.

Komnas Perempuan also reminded that the TGPF document is the official product of the country.

“So denying the official TGPF document means ignoring the collective work of the nation when entering the path of justice. Such attitudes actually like us of sincere and extensive recovery,” said Dahlia Madanih.

Earlier in an interview with Menbud Media Fadli Zon said that massive rape never existed in the tragedy of May 1998.

According to Fadli, the incident was only based on rumors and there were never indications of mass rape at the May 1998 incident.

Fadli Zon admitted that his party had denied the information of the fact that the team had given information that there was a massive rape at the incident of 98 May.

“I denied that myself and they can’t prove. I mean the history we make is a history that can unite the nation and toneIt must be true, “Fadli Sun said.

The Ministry of Culture is currently planning a redistrust history. According to him, the rewriting of Indonesian history will give priority to a positive approach and not search for mistakes from certain parties in a number of historical events.
