Jusuf Kalla mentions the four disputed islands of Aceh

“Formally and historically, the four islands are included in the Singkil region, the province of Aceh,”

Jakarta (Antara) -former vice -president of the Republic of Indonesia, Jusuf Kalla, said that the four islands are disputed by Atjeh and North Sumatra (North -Sumatra), namely Pulau Panjang, Lipan Island, Mangkir Kecil Island, Behoorden to Aceh.

“Formally and historically, the four islands are included in the Singkil region, the province of Aceh,” said JK, his nickname, reported from information that was received in Jakarta on Sunday.

Historically, JK connected the polemics with the Indonesian government negotiations with the Free Aceh Movement (GAM) in Helsinki in 2005.

During the negotiations, he said, it was agreed that the Ageh limit referred to the limit of the law number 24 of 1956 on the establishment of the autonomous region of the province of ACEH and a change in the formation of the province of Noord -Sumatra, signed by President Soekarno.

The law honored the province of ACEH as an autonomous region and separated the region of North Sumatra.

“In its history, Lipan Island, Panjang Island, Madir Besar Island, is absent, that it is indeed indeed in Aceh, Aceh Singkil, that it is located near Noord -Sumatra,” he said.

Furthermore, the chairman of the PMI is that the law is higher than the decree of the Minister of the Interior (Kepmendagri) number 300.2.2-2138 of 2025, of which the four islands are part of North Sumatra.

“The law is higher than the Ministry of Law.

Nevertheless, JK respects the Minister of the Interior (Minister of the Interior), Tito Karnavian, who has issued the Ministry of Social Affairs for efficient and close considerations. However, he reminded of the historical aspects.

Regarding the proposal that the four islands are managed together by Aceh and North Sumatra, JK assesses that there are no regions that together can manage natural resources (SDA). Moreover, according to him, there are currently no important factors that the island has.

He also hopes that the government can complete this polemic good.

“This is a sensitive problem, so we hope that the government will find a good solution,” he said.
