Jakarta must be a safe city for women and children



Jakarta (Antara) – Secretary General of the United Cities and Local Governments Asia Pacific (UCLG Aspac) Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi said that Jakarta should be able to increase the infrastructure to become a safe city for women and children.

“Jakarta must be a city with a comfortable infrastructure, a safe city for women and children, so it’s not a need to worry as a woman and child in Jakarta,” said Bernadia in a discussion on “Jakarta Future Festival (JFF) 2025” on Taman Ismail, Saturday.

In addition, Bernadia said, Jakarta must increase all facilities and infrastructure with regard to public services and comfort of the community. Such as transport and air quality services.

“I want a target, usually 5,000 steps, but in Jakarta it is difficult, for fear of being fragrant and others. So Jakarta must have a smooth transport, the city must be safe for women and children, clean cities have no pollution,” said Bernadia.

According to Bernadia, the realization of a safe city of Jakarta for women and children is not only the task of the provincial government of DKI Jakarta (Pemprov). All parties in the community, including the community, must jointly find solutions.

To realize Jakarta as a worldwide city, there must be a strong “branding” for Jakarta. “This is not only the work of the Regional Government (Pemda), everything must be involved, must participate as a form of pride as a burger from Jakarta,” he said.

Previously, the provincial government (Pemprov) of DKI Jakarta strengthened the role of officials at village level via the Department of Child Protection and population control (PPApp) to prevent cases of violence against women and children.

According to the provincial secretary of the DKI Jakarta of the People’s Welfare Assistant (Sekda), Ali Maulana Hakim, the officials, especially the Lurah, played a strategic role as leader closest to the community.

While cases of violence of women and children from January to June 2025 were 965 cases.
