Spain is running out ADSL. This Friday, April 19, the 440,000 lines of the DSL Digital Abronics (ADSL) line technology that exist in our country, according to the data of the National Markets and Competition Commission (CNMC), influenced by the gradual closure of the 8.526 Copper Central, that makes the ADSL connection possible, in Spain. The ADLs, who brought the internet to houses and companies in the early 2000s, have fallen into disuse in recent years because of the ruthless rise of the optical fiber, which offers a more stable and fast internet connection.
The ADSL -Black -out is being carried out because a directive from the European Union forces Teleoperators to eliminate copper in favor of ultra -wide tire connections because their environmental footprint is less. The obligation to switch off this type of connection is not immediately, they count, but Spain is advanced and is one of the first countries of the European Union that meets these regulations. Moreover, this Black -out of copper plants, which were also used for the connection of the fixed line, responds not only to the aging of this technology, but also to a strategy for cost optimization by teleoperators. The maintenance costs of the optical fiber are transferred via small plastic cables, fewer devices and less susceptible to spoilage than copper cables.
The day that was chosen for this Blackout is no coincidence since Telefónica, the largest Telopeora in Spain and the one who has more copper plants, becomes 100 years old. The decision is to celebrate his centenary with the highlight of the transition to the optical fiber as a symbol of technological progress. But this blackout, which is gradually being done, will not leave anyone without service. Movistar offers its customers the connection via fiber optic, which covers more than 80% of the Spanish territory, if this service is not available, these sources ensure that Movistar offers the internet via broadband connections, that is, by satellite or radio frequency. The prize, these sources, point to it, remains under the same circumstances, or very similar.
7,440 affected municipalities
For his part, Vodafone has announced that before the summer arrives, it will be more than 1,000 copper plant in Spain, while Orange, which has recently been merged with Masmóvil, has also announced the closure of its copper plants in the country. Although there is no definitive date, the CNMC estimates that the maximum of the ADSL will completely disappear in 2025.
In Spain there are a total of 7,440 municipalities that are damaged by the ADSL -Black -out, according to Eurona data, the expert company in satellite connections for rural and remote areas. More than 50% of these are in one of these areas: Castilla y León (38%); Castilla La Mancha (12%); Valencian community (10%); Andalusia and Catalonia (9%); Madrid and La Rioja (5%); Cantabria and Galicia (3%); Canary Islands, Asturia and Balearic Islands (2%) and Murcia (1%).
What to do if I stay without ADSL?
Customers who have accepted their service with Movistar must have 900 410 146 calling or if the user facilitates his telephone number, it is the company that calls him to offer all information. On the other hand, for Vodafone users, they must gain access to the website of the company and click on the ‘Check coverage’ button, which rejects a form to fill in the address of the house before clicking on ‘Consular Covering’.
In the meantime, the Orange users system is similar to that of Vodafone, because they have to provide this information via the website and as soon as the fiber percentage is selected (with or without mobile) that the customer wants, you should only be on ‘I want to’ click the address and zip code so that the company can answer.
