Students from Miguel Hernández University (UMH) have designed a new vehicle with which they will try to travel 2,000 kilometers with a liter of gasoline in the Shell Eco-Charathon ‘of the International Contest that takes place from 25 to 28 May in the Olympic Park of Queen Elizabeth London.
The test will consist of running this urban circuit with very closed curves and important slopes to check which of the participating vehicles more kilometers travel with a liter of fuel, in this case gasoline and with a single start of the car.
This is today up to the journalists The professor of the mechanical and energy engineering of the UMH and project coordinator, Miguel Ángel Oliva, reported during the presentation of the vehicle with which this university will re -compete in this competition together with around 200 teams around the world.
The new prototype, called ‘Datile 17’ and 100% made in carbon fiber, is an evolution of the UMH car, with various improvements that focus on the decrease in friction, so that it is running with less energy, the change in the front axle and the improvement of the back.
The great novelty of the competition for this edition is the return to participation in gasoline, in contrast to recent years, in which I used ethanol as fuel.
The pilot lying for larger aerodynamics
Oliva has pointed out that “there has been a change in the regulations and all cars that work with an internal combustion engine will be classified in the same way.”
In this way, because of the weather conditions of the city of London, Ethanol is “a disadvantage against gasoline or gas,” he explained. The UMH vehicle measures 2.85 meters long, 60 centimeters wide and 50 centimeters high.
With a weight of 31.8 kilograms, the pilot has to lie completely to look for maximum aerodynamic efficiency. It is one of the lowest models in its category and the design reduces the possibility of destroying, something very important, because the pilots will almost take a ground in the test.
Last year the ‘2016’ of the UMH reached the first position in ethanol modality, after a journey of 1,555 kilometers with a liter of this fuel.
