Jakarta (Antara) – The government asks mobile operators in Indonesia to bind to presenting internet access to 100 Mbps in areas without optical fiber networks, not only in urban areas, but to remote areas.
Minister of Communication and Digital (Mencomigi) Meutya Hafid said that the move was part of the acceleration of the distribution of national digital connectivity according to the direction of President Prabowo Subianto, who stated in his inauguration of speech that connectivity was an important basis for the economic growth of the people.
“As we all know, in his inauguration speech, the president repeatedly said the importance of digitization to improve the economic life of the community,” Meutya said in meeting the leadership of the mobile operator at the Ministry of Komdigi Office, Jakarta, Thursday.

To support the use of mobile operators to present optimum digital connectivity, the government promises new spectrum allocation and open network schedules (open access) that encourages the involvement of many parties and affordable service prices.
The new spectrum refers to the 1.4 GHz spectrum that is planned to be auctioned and used for Broadband wireless access (BWA).
The effort is expected to open the road to offer remaining high -speed internet services in areas that have not been reached by optical fiber networks, both for public facilities such as schools, health care centers, village offices and households.
According to data from the Directorate -General of Digital Infrastructure of the Ministry of Komdigi, no less than 86 percent of the schools (190,000 units) still have no permanent internet access.
Moreover, 75 percent of Puskesma’s (7,800 units) are not well connected, 32,000 village offices are still in the zone empty (not affordable for internet) and penetration Fixed broadband Reach just 21.31 percent of households in Indonesia.
To support this, the government has drawn up a new spectrum that will be assigned transparently to national cellular operators. The network model to be applied is open access Making a permit holder must open the infrastructure to be used together by other organizers.
“This is our step to ensure that every spectrum policy not only gives priority to the regulatory aspects, but also the widest possible space opens for the involvement and willingness of the industry,” Meutya explained.
Ministerial regulations as a legal basis for cheap internet programs have now passed the industrial consultation stage for more than a month.
This year’s selection process of the operator starts with a transparent and responsible schedule, which prioritizes the readiness and dedication of technology to provide services at affordable prices.
