Jakarta (Antara) – The alliance of Indonesian churches (PGI) responds to the case of nickel -mining in Raja Ampat, Papua, and asks the industry to implement or Responsible Mining.
“The mining industry in Indonesia to seriously implement minor building standards and to respect the capacity of the environment,” said PGI Secretary General PDT Darwin Darmawan on Thursday in his statement in Jakarta.
He also emphasized that the importance of the mining industry that maintains the principles of free, earlier and informed permission (FPIC), so that the partnership that is only with local communities and indigenous peoples are standards that are confirmed in industrial relations with the community.
“During mining activities, players in the mining industry must give priority to the efficiency of resources, minimizing the actions of the environment and execution of biodiversity,” he said.

PGI also insists on the mining industry in Indonesia to be oriented not only to financial benefits in the short term, but in long-term socio-ecological responsibilities, where justice can be realized from generation to generation.
“For this reason, players from the extractive industry must also ensure that recovery and ecological recovery efforts together with extractive activities are supplied as a form of industrial wisdom, not as a burden after the mines,” Darwin said.
