Surabaya (Antara) – Minister of Agriculture (Minister of Agriculture) Andi Amran Sulaiman encourages the acceleration of national sugar self -sumption within three years through the steps of deregulation, intensification and expansion of sugar cane.

He was of the opinion that the human resources in the body of PTPN were very qualified, with most employees having a minimal work experience of 10 to 20 years. However, inflexible regulations are deemed to limit the technical decision -making that can increase productivity.
Amran said that one of the fundamental problems was the situation of National Sugar Cane country, where about 86 percent of the country was damaged or not optimal conditions. That is why he emphasized the need for general land improvement.
“They all have to be dismantled and improved. The newest unloading ratoon. There is no other choice if we want to be a self -supply,” he said.

On the occasion, Amran revealed that the Ministry of Agriculture, together with PTPN, would send an official letter to the relevant ministries and technical institutions to request deregulation.
“I signed immediately. This is a form of our dedication that there is no time to be wasted. Sugar Self-Sufficiency is no longer a dream, but the real agenda of the state,” he said.
In the meantime, President Director of PT Sidergi Sugar Nusantara (SGN), Mahmudi, positively welcomed the direction of the Minister of Agriculture and called to the spirit of exponentially work in an attempt to increase national sugar production.
“The message of Mr Minister is clear, we have to rise and work exponentially, not just 10-20 percent,” said Mahmudi.
He said that the SGN sugar production had risen from 751 thousand tons to a million tons in the last two years, or about 30 percent more. However, these achievements are still not in accordance with the expected exponential goals.
As follows -SGN has succeeded in expanding sugar cane to 10,300 hectares of the initial target of 5,000 hectares.
“This is a clear proof of our commitment,” said Mahmudi.
SGN also focuses on the sugar production of 4 million tons next year and 5 million tons in the following year. To achieve this goal, SGN bears five main strategies:
First the improvement of productivity, including increasing the proportion of productive land by 86 percent and the use of superior varieties.
Both increase in proceeds, with optimizing varieties and ripening process.
