Jakarta (Antara) – Two Indonesian citizens (WNI) were arrested in Los Angeles, California, in an immigration activities by local authorities that caused major demonstrations in the city, said the Indonesian Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) Tuesday (10/6).
Since last Friday, the US Department of Interior Security (DHS) and US Immigration Authorities have been raiding in immigrants in various places in Los Angeles, such as clothing district, Westlake and South Los Angeles.
“The Indonesian consulate -General in Los Angeles has received information that 2 Indonesian citizens have been detained in the operation,” said the director of the protection of the Indonesian Foreign Ministry Judha Nugraha in his written statement.
He said that the two Indonesian citizens were a woman with the initials Ess (53), who was arrested for her status in the illegal US, and a man with the initials CT (48), which was arrested for a history of violations of drugs and illegally entered the US.
“The Indonesian consulate general in Los Angeles is currently coordinating with local authorities for access to consulative help for the two Indonesian citizens,” said Judha.
In the midst of the increasingly fierce enforcement of immigration in the US, the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs insisted on Indonesian citizens in the country to guarantee the use of legal visas and in accordance with their designation and to comply with the local regulations.
Indonesian citizens who are planning to travel to the US are encouraged to anticipate a tighter immigration investigation when arriving there, Judha said.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also asked the Indonesian citizens affected by the American immigration campaign to understand their rights in the legal system in the country, including the right to receive legal advice help and the right to contact the nearest Indonesian representative.
Judha encourages Indonesian citizens to contact the protection contact immediately at six Indonesian representatives in the US or to press the emergency button in the safe travel application from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs if the difficulties experience or is confronted in the country.
