Jakarta (Antara) – Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia stated that the government has officially withdrawn four nickel -mine business licenses in the Raja Ampat region, Southwest Papua.
Bahlil, after the press conference at the presidential office, said the Presidential Palace Complex, Jakarta, on Tuesday that this decision did not include IUP that was owned by PT Gag Nickel, which is active on Gag Island because it is still considered to criteria of the environmental impact analysis.
“For PT GAG, because he carried out a mining process that was very good according to the evaluation of our team,” he said.
According to Bahlil, based on the results of the evaluation of the Ministry PT Gag Nickel, mining activities are deemed to have carried out in accordance with the analysis of environmental impact documents (Amdal).
He added that the location of PT Gag Nickel’s Mine was not in the Raja Ampat Geopark area and geographically closer to the Noord -Maluku region. That is why the activities of the company are not included in the protected nature conservation zone.

Earlier, the government temporarily stopped all mining activities in the region to objectively verify the field.
According to Bahlil, the evaluation results were subsequently brought into a limited meeting with President Prabowo Subianto, who eventually decided to withdraw four IUPs owned by other companies considered environmental provisions and small island administration.
“The president decided that four IUPs were being withdrawn outside of Gag Island and I immediately took technical steps to coordinate with the technical ministry for withdrawal,” said Bahlil.
Moreover, he emphasized that PT Gag Nickel is still allowed to work with strict supervision of the government.
“Because it is also part of the state resources, as long as we look closely. The direction of our president must be checked correctly. And so far we think it will still be able to run,” he said.
Earlier reported, the government has officially withdrawn the IUP of four mining companies in the Raja Ampat region because it was proven that the environmental provisions and geopark areas are violating.
The four companies are PT Anugerah Surya Pratama, PT Nurham, PT Mulia Raymond Perkasa and PT Kawei Sejahtera Mining.
