Mr. President has special attention and serious to keep Raja Ampat a world tourism, and for the sustainability of our country
Jakarta (Antara) – Energy and Mineral Resources Minister (ESDM) Bahlil Lahadalia said that President Prabowo Subianto paid special attention to keeping Raja Ampat as a National Marine Park Area, a world destination under water.
That is why President Pabowo decided that the government has withdrawn four Mining Company Licenses (IUP) in Raja Ampat Regency, Southwest Papua, one of the reasons for retaining the Raja Ampat area.
“Mr. President has special attention and seriously to continue to make Raja Ampat a world tourism, and for the sustainability of our country,” said energy and mineral resources Minister during a press conference at the President’s Office, the Indonesian Presidential Palace, Jakarta, Tuesday.
The four IUP whose withdrawal of the permit was announced by today’s government was owned by PT Anugerah Surya Pratama, PT Nurham, PT Melia Raymond Perkasa and PT Kawai Sejahtera. From the map shown by Bahlil, the four companies have mine permits for areas outside Gag Island.
“The reason for the first withdrawal of the environment for what was transferred to us by the Minister of Environment (Hanif Faisol Nurofiq) (the permit). Secondly, we also started to protect in the area of these areas that we must still protect while we are still paying attention to life at sea, and also preserving,” Bahlil said.
The next reason, Bahlil said that various mining areas were included in the Geopark area. Nevertheless, he said that the permits were published before Raja Ampat was determined by UNESCO on 24 May 2023 as UNESCO Global Geopark (UGGP).
The Geopark area in Raja Ampat comprises the covering of four main islands in Raja Ampat Regency, namely
Waigeo Island, in the northern part (including the Wayag Islands in the northern region), Batanta Island, Salawati Island in the central part, and Misool Island in the south. The Geopark area also includes water between large islands and small islands around it.
Apart from the withdrawal of 4 IUPs in Raja Ampat, Bahlil said that there was no environmental impact resulting from mining activities of the four companies. The reason, the four companies whose IUPs were withdrawn had not started mine because they did not approve the work plan and the budget (RKAB) by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
“The four companies do not produce because the RKAB does not exist. One company is explained if there is an RKAB, (if there is) the RKAB can work if there are Amdal documents, (but) they do not escape all administrative requirements,” said the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.
