That is why the Ministry of Education and Culture has purchased 1.1 million laptop units, together with 3G modems and projectors for more than 77 thousand schools in a period of 4 years.
Nadiem said that the laptop was not only an aid to support distance education, but also became a means to increase the competence of teachers and educational staff.

Nadiem also emphasized that the purchase of laptops with Chromebook types carried out by his party was for schools in areas that have internet access and open in disadvantaged, especially and outer areas (3T).
He also emphasized that the Chromebook process in the 3T area was not carried out during its leadership.
“Kemendikbudristek makes an extensive investigation, but the target is not a 3T area and in the technical guidelines it is very clear that it can only be given to schools that have the internet,” he added.
The explanation of Nadiem to respond to researchers who were related to the youth processor-general for special crimes (Jampids) of the office of the public prosecutor in the middle of investigating the alleged corruption case when purchasing digitization of education in the form of Chromebook laptops in 2019-202.
Head of the Legal Information Center (KapusPenkum) of the office of the Attorney General Harli Siregar said that researchers investigated the alleged evil by leading different parties by technical teams to make technical studies with regard to the purchase of equipment help in 2020.
“To be aimed at using laptops based on Operating system Chrome, “he said.
In fact, he said, the use of Chromebook is not a necessity. This is because in 2019 an investigation into the use of 1,000 Chromebook units by the Ministry of Education and Culture and the results was not effective.
“Why is it not effective? Because we know it is based on the internet, while in Indonesia the internet is not all the same,” he added.
From this experience, the technical team also recommends using specifications with the Windows operating system. At that time, however, the Ministry of Education and Culture replaced the study through a new study that is recommended to use Chrome system processing.
