Jakarta (Antara) – Minister of Environment Hanif Faisol Nurofiq stated that his ministry studied the potential of criminal violations of four companies whose mining business licenses (IUP) in Raja Ampat Regency, Southwest Papua, were withdrawn by the government.
Hanif said that the Ministry of Environment (KLH) team immediately left for the location of the mining license was issued in Raja Ampat Regency to check the conditions in the field while the potential for violations was assessed.
“There are three main approaches, starting with the sanctions of government administration, then environmental disputes and criminal lawsuits,” Hanif said that answering reporters when he was met on Tuesday in the Indonesian Presidential Palace, Jakarta.
The suspicion of the potential for criminal offenses arises because of mining activities that have been carried out outside the norm.
“There are people who can go there (Criminal, etc.) Because various activities have been carried out outside the standards. This is a criminal potential with regard to mining activities that have been carried out,” said Hanif.

He went on if there was environmental damage, the perpetrators had to recover.
“It does not mean (the permit) is withdrawn and then completed, the recovery will be carried out by the Ministry of Environment with ESDM friends (Ministry of Energy and Ministry),” he said.
The government announced on Tuesday to withdraw four Mining Company Licenses (IUP) with four companies in Raja Ampat Regency, Southwest Papua. The four companies include PT Anugerah Surya Pratama, PT Nurham, PT Melia Raymond Perkasa and PT Kawai Sejahtera.

In the meantime, Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia explained that the four IUPs were withdrawn because part of his country was in the protected area of Raja Ampat.
“Technically, we also see some who enter the Geopark area,” said Bahlil explained the reason for the withdrawal of IUP during a press conference.
The Geopark area in Raja Ampat is a protected nature area as determined in the legal provisions.
The Geopark area comprises four main islands in Raja Ampat Regency, namely Waigeo Island, in the northern part (including the Wayag Islands in the northernmost region), Batanta Island, Salawati Island in the central part and Misool Island in the southern part.
The Geopark area also includes water between large islands and small islands around it.
