Geological Agency describe the analysis of the earthquake of 5.0 magnitude in Pangandaran



There are no reports of construction damage or victims

Bandung (Antara) – The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) explained an analysis of an earthquake with a size of 5.0 size that the Pangandaran Regency, West Java, shooked on Monday (9/6) Night.

Head of the Geology Office M Wafid explained that the location of the epicenter was in the sea, with the surroundings of morphology, hills, to steep mountains.

“Some rocks have experienced weathering, quarter deposits and weathered rocks that are delayed, loose, soft and not compact, to strengthen the effects of shocks and to increase the vulnerability for earthquakes,” Wafid said on Tuesday in Bandung.

Wafid explained that the area was dominated by soft, medium-sized soil and hard soil and compiled from tertiary sedimentary rocks, quarter positos and part of pre-technology rocks.

The geological freedom of choice reports that this earthquake shows the thrust pattern with the oblique component of the southeastern Southeast -Zuidoost.

Earthquakes associated with Indo-Australian plate subduction activities against Eurasian plates in southern Java, and are classified as inter-plant earthquakes.

On June 9 at 11.55 pm, BMKG registered an earthquake with a size of 5.0 Magnitude shook Pangandaran Regency. The earthquake was centered in the sea, on the coordinates of 8.08 ° South Latitude and 108.72 ° east longness, about 48 kilometers southeast of Pangandaran Regency, with a depth of 47 kilometers.

According to Wafid, earthquake shocks were felt in areas with various vulnerability percentages of earthquakes, from low to high.

BMKG reported that the earthquake was felt with the intensity of MMI III in districts Pangandaran and IIII MMI in the regions of Cilacap, Banyumas, Kebumen, Tasikmalayas and Garut.

“Until our report was drawn up on Tuesday morning at 6.30 am, there were no reports of construction damage or victims. This earthquake did not have the potential to cause a tsunami,” he said.
